The identities of John and Jane were deduced as follows:
1. Jane's brother Martin married Johanna Casey, the first cousin of John O'Brien.
2. The marriage was performed by Rev. Patrick O'Brien, the brother of John O'Brien. Patick also performed the marriage of his (and John's) brother Andrew.
3. John's brother William appears in the 1900 census in the house of John's son Matthew.
Against this, A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri says on p. 200 that John who married Jane was from Lincoln County.2
