On Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, our beloved brother Thomas "Dale" Carroll Jr. passed on. Dale was born June 30, 1948, to Thomas and Nellie Carroll. He spent his years in Fort Yukon helping his father with fishing in the summer and trapping in the winter. He is the eldest of 12 children.
Dale was a seasonal firefighter, dog musher, storyteller and friend to many. You could always find Dale out visiting no matter which part of town you were in, telling stories. We will surely miss his wit, sense of humor and his many stories.
In the early '70s, Dale served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. Dale had many friends and was always telling stories of them and their fun times. Dale will affectionately be remembered as "Mr. Drysdale."
Dale spent many summers on the Yukon River at fish camp with his family and with his companion of many years, Linda, and her girls. Dale loved dog mushing. Sometimes he would talk on and on about his dog team of years past. Dale was a very generous person and kind at heart. Dale was a Hank Williams fan; he enjoyed listening to good ol' country music.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Carroll Sr.; mother, Nellie Carroll; and daughter, Amy Lynn; grandparents, Daniel and Rachel Cadzow and James and Fannie Carroll; brother, Daniel Carroll; nephew, Thomas Shewfelt; and sister-in-law, Delma Bohn; uncles, Joseph, Harry, Albert, Clifton and James; godchildren, Wilfred Alexander and Warren Ward.
He is survived by his sisters, Bertha, Cynthia (Paul), Janet (Clifton), Valerie and Rachel (Ted); brothers, Ronnie (Becky), Darrell, Raymond, Warren and Robert; aunts, Ann, Fannie (Terry) and Delores (Dave), Doris Ward, Alice Carroll (Fort Yukon), Jessie and Alice Carroll (Circle); uncles, Richard (Eva), Calvin and Richard Strom (Twila); his lifelong companion, Linda McClain and daughters Valerie, Evelyn and Donna; Canadian cousins, Stanley, Margaret, Effie Njootli and Doris Allen; numerous nephews and nieces; and godchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., today, Wednesday, Nov. 18, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Fort Yukon. Burial service will take place at Hudson Bay Cemetery. A potlatch will follow at the Tribal Hall. God bless you all, and thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
