James R Butler passed away here suddenly today [sic]at his residence where he lived with a son Joseph and one of his daughters Mrs. Edward Mahoney. Although he was up and about everyday, he had been in failing health for the last two months.
His wife predeceased him twenty-five years ago. He leaves seven daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Edward Mahoney Malden, NB, Mrs. Fred J. Savage Moncton, Mrs. Vincent Doucett Brighton, Mass., Mrs. L.H. Chisholm, Hollywood, Cali., Mrs. Elliot H. MacArthur, Lexington, Mass., Miss Jennie Butler Amherst, NS, and Joseph Butler Malden, NB. All are expected for the funeral. There are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews here and in the United States.
The late Mr. Butler was born in Malden 76 years ago. As a young man, he railroaded in Pennsylvania. Upon his return he farmed two properties and retired ten years ago. He will indeed be missed by the community where through the years he had earned and retained the respect of residents.
The funeral service will be held Thursday morning in St. Bartholomew's Church, Melrose, the Rev. Father Frederic Cormier officiating. Interment will be made in Melrose Cemetery.
Mrs. L.H. Chisholm, daughter of the late Mr. Butler, was notified of her father's passing while visiting her sister in Massachusetts just prior to her departure for home in Hollywood, Cali. Her comparative [sic] proximity to her father's late residence makes possible her attendance at the last rites along with her other sisters and relatives.
