Priest Dies after Celebrating Mass
Funeral services for Rev. William Vincent Roche, assistant pastor of St. Philip Neri Church, 5036 Thekla avenue, who died unexpectedly from a heart attack yesterday, will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Father Roche, who was 55, was saying mass at 6 a. m. and near the end of the services began to feel faint. He was escorted to the parish house at 5076 Durant avenue. His superior, Rev. Thomas Kennedy, summoned a physician, who, in turn, called a police inhalator squad. The inhalator crew and doctor worked for an hour in a vain attempt to revive Father Roche.
Father Roche was ordained 29 years ago. He was a native St. Louisan, and was educated at Kerrick Cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mary Roche, and two sisters.
