    MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Betty Lou (Derrington) Stevens, 80, passed away Tuesday February 16, 2010, at her home. She was born October 9, 1929, in Posey County, Ind., the only daughter of the late John D. and Esther (Kapperman) Derrington.

    She was employed with the MSD of Mt. Vernon at Farmersville Elementary School for 17 years. Betty was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Sunbeam Chapter of the Eastern Star, all in Mt. Vernon. Betty enjoyed knitting, cooking, and caring for her family.

    She was preceded in death by her father in 1970, her mother in 1989, and her husband, Frank Stevens Jr. in 1954.

    Betty is survived by her son and caregiver, Allen Stevens; her daughter and son-in-law, Sonja and Larry Bogan, all of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon, IN, with Rev. Tom Buffington officiating and burial in Bellefontaine cemetery.

    Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, February 18, 2010, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VNA Hospice.
