One of the best known and oldest residents of the eastern end of Westmorland county, in the person of Mr. James Carroll, Sr., passed away at his home in Melrose on Sunday night last. Mr. Carroll, who had reached the ripe age of 90 years was born in Melrose and lived there all his life, having followed the occupation of farming. Deceased, who in recent years, made his home with his son, Mr. James Carroll, Jr., was known and highly respected throughout the eastern parishes. His parents came from Ireland and settled in Melrose. Two sons and four daughters survive. The sons are James, of Melrose, and William, manager for the Singer Sewing Machine Co., in Halifax. The daughters are all married and live in different parts of the States.
