| | Clarissa Morris-Hensley Obituary: Clarissa Hensley was born 1 Mar 1803 in Gallatin County, Kentucky. She was the oldest of 12 children, only of whom is living – Mrs. Emily Clifton of Rochester, Minn. She was converted and united with the Baptist Church at age 17, two years later she was united in marriage to James C. Hensley. The same year 1822 her parents, General John H. Morris and Delia Morris migrated to Illinois and settled in Lawrence County about five miles south of Lawrenceville, where six years later, she and her husband and family followed and joined the new settlement. She and her husband united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1831, of which she remained a member over 55 years. She lived a constant Christian Life until her day. Left a widow at age 37 with six children to feed, cloth and educate in a new and comparatively undeveloped country, she strove hard with the difficulties of such a task never losing heart and always believing God would help her bear her burdens. She was not disappointed, always in her later years talked much of the Goodness of God to her in those years of struggle and hardship, always spoke with Motherly pride of her children, and affectionately clung to them until the last. They now arise and call her blessed, she has for over 8 years been an invalid most of the time in great pain all of which time she has never mummered. All who knew her during those years of pain and suffering speak of her unclouded Christian experience. Thus, she lived and on Tuesday morning January 17, 1888 at 8:30 A.M., she died in peace. The funeral took place Thursday January 19th at 2:00 P.M. from the residence of her son Moses Hensley of Olney, Illinois. The services wee conducted by Rev. Pierce and Elder Morrel.
