"John Holland came with his wife and mother. He married in Ireland a relative of the Sweeneys. His family consisted of Jeremiah, John, Daniel, Joseph, Mrs. John Barry, Mrs. John Mahoney, Mrs. Charles Noonan, Margaret (Mrs. Quilty). The loudness of Holland's voice would have been disconcerting were it not that there was something genial and friendly in its tone. He was an ideal companion for a day's work or an outing."2
