Cting Grandma Deem's Obituaries, Hamilton Co IL 1917-1925, p. 58: "OBITUARY Emanuel Reed was born in Virginia Dec. 18, 1831, departed this life Dec. 31, 1919, age 88 years and 13 days. He came to this state when a small boy, and later with his brother, James, went to the gold fields of California to dig gold. Afterwards he returned to this county where he has since lived. He was living with his son Commodore when death came. He was united to Elizabeth JOHNSON and to this union was born 8 children, namely: Sarah, Theodore, Thomas, Mary, Logan, Richard, Eliza, Charles. He afterwards married Sarah P. Thomas and to this union 5 children were born. Many years ago he professed a hope in Christ and united with the General Baptist church to which he was faithful until the death angel came and called his spirit home.
