Joseph's first wife Volley apparently d. soon after they were married. Joseph Nesler and Nancy Black, marr. 11 Oct 1863, Posey Co. (County Clerk's office, book C-5, p. 350); Joseph Nesler and Catherine Rose, marr. 17 Jul 1866, Posey Co. (County Clerk's office, book C-5, p. 58). [Most likely the same Joseph in each case. Joseph and Catherine appear in the 1870 census with three Nesler children, ages 3, 2 and 5, in that order, with Martha A the oldest. In the June 1880 census, Martha's age is given as 13 so she is poss. the dau. of Catherine, but more likely the 1870 record is correct and her mother was Nancy, given the order in which the children are named. A Martha Nessler Tenison, age 26, marr. in Posey Co. in 1890, with her parents names given as Joseph Nessler and Nancy Perkins (County Clerk's office, book H-2, p. 31). Martha Nesler had marr. Daniel Tenison/ Tenson/Tennison in 1885, in White Co. IL]4
