From Le Clergé Canadien-Français: "né à Québec, le 21 novembre 1804, de Joseph Paquet et de Marie-Josephte Gagnon, fit ses études classiques et théologiques au séminaire de Québec, et fut ordonné le 28 septembre 1828. Vicaire à Saint-Roch de Québec (1828-1829) ; curé de Chimouguis (1829-1830), de Richibouctou-Village (d'août 1830 à sept. 1848) ; avec desserte de Bouctouche (1836-1839) ; curé dans le Nouveau-Brunswick (1839-1848) ; les circonstances voulurent qu'un jour, en 1842, il y tint entre ses mains le choix du premier évêque de cette province ; alors président d'une assemblée également partagée entre deux candidats, l'un canadien-français, l'autre irlandais, quand un seul devait être élu sur présentation au pape, il eut le grave devoir de faire pencher la balance ; mû par on ne sait quelle condescendance il vota contre le Canadien-Français, qui plus que de sa race était son oncle ; de la sorte il n'a rien moins que reculé de soixante-dix ans l'accession d'un des siens à l'épiscopat dans les provinces maritimes ; curé de Caraquet (1848-1869) ; décédé à Montréal, le 28 juillet 1869 ; inhumé à Caraquet le 13 août suivant."1 | ||
