    J. C. Fisher departed this life at his home in Blackfoot, Tuesday morning, December eighth, just before dawn, and the funeral was conducted on Thursday Morning from the Methodist church, Rev. B. L. L. Barnstable officiating.
Mr. Fisher was 80 years old and is survived by his wife and four sons, all of whom were here for the funeral. Harvey, the eldest lives at Idaho Falls, Charles V. and Fred at Blackfoot and Earl at Oakland, California.
Mr. Fisher was born near Oswego, New York, and lived in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas before coming to Idaho. He has lived here since 1885 and moved his family here in 1887. He has filled a number of positions of public trust, and has been known as "Judge Fisher" during most of his residence here.
He was 27 years old when the Civil War began, and he enlisted in the 16th Wisconsin infantry, serving for three years, until his term of enlistment expired. His regiment saw active service throughout, and in the battle of Shiloh more than half of them were killed. Mr. Fisher had one bullet hole through his clothing at the close of the fight, another through his cap, and a wound in the groin where a spent minute ball did him an injury that seemed slight at the time, but which gradually increased its annoyance and trouble for over fifty years, and was a source of much suffering up to the time of his death.
in 1864 Mr. Fisher enlisted in the First Minnesota battery, was with Sherman at Chattanooga and Mission Ridge, and made the great circuit of the march to the sea, and north to Washington, participating in the Grand Review at the capital at the close of the war. He was in 19 of the hard-fought battles of the war, besides many skirmishes. He was married in 1868 to Miss Melvin Moore in Wisconsin, and she still survives him.
