In 1806, Nov. 8, my wife gave birth to a son who was baptized in the Jesuit Church by Pastor Groen and was given the name Emilian. His godfather is Valentin Haefner from Hofthiergarten, eldest son of my sister Margaretha.
I had this Valentin Haefner come here to Amsterdam in January 1805, from where I had him go to America in May, in the company of another cousin, Andreas Fuchs from Sommerau. He landed happily in Baltimore, and from there he traveled over the mountains to Kentuky, first to examine the various regions and then to sit down as a farmer somewhere - but now, 25 Dec. 1806, I have had no further reports from him or his companion since April of this year.
