Probate16 March 1674/75He witnessed the probate of the estate of Thomas Lawrence and Elizabeth Bates on 16 March 1674/75 at Suffolk Co., MassachusettsG; Edward Bate aged 67 years or thereabout testifieth that Thomas Lawrance of hingham [gave] a little before his [decease] being on his death bed as his last act and will all his estate both in land and goods some [small] thing excepted if there were any thing excepted if there [were] any to his wife Elizabeth Lawrance and what shee left at her death should be given to his Children equally devided the decease of the sd Thomas Lawrence was aboute 17 or so yeares agoe, John Smith of Hingham aged 49 yeares or there aboute testifyes that which is above written is the truth. Edward Bate and John Smith above named testifieth that they were both present and did heare the sd Thomas Lawrance express what is above written

To the honored County Court now in Boston, The humble petition of Elizabeth Lawrance widdow now liveing in dorchester that for as much as my husband Thomas Lawrance deceased did upon his death bed a little Before hee dyed very solumly in the presents of my Brother Elder Edward Bate of waymouth and leftte John Smith of Hingham give as his last will and testamt that smale estate hee was then possest of to mee the sd Elizabeth Lawrance his then wife desireing my brother Edward Bate to bee my Counceller when hee was gone and by whose Counsell I acted in Refferance to the estate my husband left mee and in this following perticular in selling a small psell of land to Leftt John Smith who then gave to the vallue of itt and unto whome I gave a deed under hand and seale about twenty yeares agoe. But throw my Ignorance doing it without Legall adminestration though agreable to my husbands Will as by testimoney upon Oath by my Brother Edward Bate and Leift Smith doth appeare the said Left Smith being afrayd that hee or his should bee Molested or wronged after my deth and not injoy there Just Right which hath bene honestly p an unknown person formed on his part as I Could my humble request to your honnors is that you would doe that for my selfe or him that may tend to the quiet injoymt of what hee hath soe honnest aright unto I Rest your honnors
