"Mrs. McConomy was one of the best known women in this city. She was a daughter of the late Charles Gillespie, a prominent merchant in his day. When a young woman she was married to Ambrose McConomy, son of the late Peter McConomy, and a well known citizen, thus uniting two of the prominent families of this city. Her husband was a member of the banking firm of Reed, McCrann & Co., and he continued a member until shortly before his death.
"Mrs. McConomy possessed a fine soprano voice and she was a member of St. Mary's church choir for many years, when it had in its membership the finest voices in the city.
"Thirteen years ago Mrs. McConomy removed to Philadelphia, and she resided there until her death. Her surviving children are Charles A., Paul L., and Miss Agnes, of Philadelphia; Lucy, wife of Richard J. Malone, of Lynchburg. Va., and Kathryn, wife of Judge A. B. Hassler. Her remains will be brought to this city for interment." - [S5] 1900 U.S. Federal Census.
