Family

Chistiann (from the gravestone) was named as "Mrs." in her obituary, a wid. whose unnamed husband died "a number of years ago," residing at the home of her "niece" Elizabeth Sheaff, and mother of the late John Sheaff.
She is in the household of John S Sheaff in 1850 and 1860, and is named as a "daughter" in the 1857 will of John S Sheaff, probated 1862.
She is named in the 1870 census as Cath. in the household of John A Sheaff and Ellen Gillespie Sheaff. In the 1880 census she is named as a wid., the sister-in-law of Ellen, wid. of John A Sheaff. In the 1900 census, she is named as Christiana Sheaff, a wid. with one child, not living, and the aunt of Elizabeth Sheaff (dau. of John A and Ellen).
The obituary of John A Sheaff in 1877 says he is survived by a daughter and a son by a former marriage. That son must be William Ramsey Sheaff.
Thus, the most likely possibilty is that Catherine Christiann (or Christiann Catherine) was the wife of a brother of John A Sheaff, and the mother of John Sheaff of Brooklyn NY, who d. after 1880 but before 1900.3
