Benjamin Smith, a well-known resident of this city, died at his home, No. 334 North Mulberry street, Saturday morning, from inflammation of the bowels, aged sixty-three years. He was a son of Christian Smith and a brother, of the late G. W. Smith, the Pittsburg millionaire, who conducted the manufacture of Hostetter‘s bitters in that city for a number of years. Deceased was a clerk in the dry goods store of Hlostetter & Bates for a number of years and later engaged in the cigar business. He also lived in Chicago and was connected with the postoffice there as a special officer for a number of years. He is survived by a sister, Miss Sarah M. Smith, of this city, and four daughters, Misses Katie, Lillie and Lucy, of Lancaster, and Mrs. Mary Chesssman, of Philadelphia."
