  5. [S2860] Louise Ayer Vandiver, Traditions and History of Anderson County (Atlanta, Georgia: Ruralist Press, 1928), p. 177. "Further out from town on the Emmerson Bridge Road neighborhood, on Drake land, is an old graveyard, originally it was known as the Rutledge Graveyard ...
Mr. Rutledge had three daughters; one, Anne, married James Emmerson, another married Zacheriah Hall, and the other married John Martin for whom Martin Township was named.
James Emmerson, his wife and one son are buried in the old cemetery. There are two graves there marked by the rough native stones, but some care has been taken to shape them, and the names and dates are chiseled on them. One is Arch Gillison, age 64, who died in March, 1792. The inscription is almost illegible now, but by careful peering and using the fingers as the blind do, it may be deciphered. The other is Jane Gillison, died November 2, 1796, age 32. Whether she was his wife or his daughter is not stated. It is known where a Gillison house once stood in the neighborhood, but there are none of the name or kindred in the county now, and practically nothing is known as to who they were, or why they are buried in the Rutledge graveyard."
