Edward Savage, The Story of Melrose, Westmorland County (copy from Université Saint Joseph Archives, Moncton), transcription online http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbwestmo/history.htm, p. 14: "Of the Barry family there were two brothers, James and Patrick. Both were married, and both died comparatively young. James had a large family, most of whom were born in America. In the order of their age, the family were: Ellen (Mrs. Denis Mahoney), Patrick, Catherine (Mrs. James Brown), John, Mary (James Mahoney's second wife), William, Margaret (Mrs. John Reilly the second), and James. Mrs. Barry had the distinction of living the longest of any of the Irish settlers, and seeing more of her descendants."
  2. [S520] VWH, According to Rev. Edward Savage in his The Story of Melrose, p. 26, "John Welsh came [to New Brunswick from Ireland] shortly after the Barrys, to whom he was related by marriage" and, p. 27, "John Welch was followed in migrating to New Brunswick by his brother Edward, who came with his brother-in-law Daniel Donovan, Daniel Carty, Jeremiah McCarthy, and Daniel O'Connell." The only Walsh-Barry relationship found to date is the marriage of Hanorah Walsh and James Barry. This would make James Barry the brother-in-law of John and Edward Walsh.
