"Mrs. Emily Clifton, only surviving child of Gen. John H. Morris, is now a resident of Rochester, Minn. She was born March 2, 1827, and writes that her mother, Delia Hoagland and Clarissa Hoff were of just the same age, so Miss Hoff could well remember about her uncle Cornelius and the other members of the family. Mrs. Clifton says her grandfather Hoagland was in New York at the time of the great Levi Weeks and Elmore Sands tragedy, and saw bliss Sands after she was taken out of the Manhattan well."2
