"In 1812, Robert Haines, a native of Frederick Co., Va., settled in Ohio, and in the war which soon followed was in command of a company of dragoons which marched against the Indians. For many years he was an associate judge, and was the first postmaster at New Richmond. He died May 25, 1844, leaving a widow who yet resides in the county, at the age of eighty-six years. Of his sons, Joseph C, the eldest, is a business man at New Richmond ; Philip Q. is an engineer at Keokuk, Iowa ; and Robert, who was an architect, died in 1866."2 | ||
