"Of the date and place of Tryntje's birth we know nothing, but we can surmise a little. Her husband was originally from Winkle, a little town near Hoorne, in North Holland, and we know that he returned to Hoorne in 1633; and Symon Walings, generally conceded to have been his brother, was from Wijngaerden, in the district of het Bildt, in the Province of Friesland, just across the Zuyder Zee. It would seem probable that Tryntje was born some place in this vicinity. As to the date of her birth, her oldest daughter - or at least the one who married first - was married in 1663, so Tryntje probably was born before 1623. And as her youngest son was born in 1665 it is reasonable to suppose that she was not born earlier than 1620. So if we state her birth as about 1621, we cannot be far from the truth."

But it is also possible that she had so identified herself with her first husband that she was referred to as 'Tryntje, Jacob‘s wife;' just as she was often known as 'Tryntje Walings' - 'Walings’ wife.'
