| | "12, Jonathan, s. of Samuel (6), b. 1724; engaged with brother Othniel in clearing land at Charl. 1743, and in the settlement of that town; the houses of both were at East Charl. and enclosed in a stockade in 1754; the site of this fort was determined by the writer in 1874 by means of a plan found at the State House; Feb. 17, 1745, he bought of Othniel one-half of a 1000 acre tract lying on both sides of the river; abt. 1760 he rem. to Heath; he carried with him, on horseback, a pig which he got at Dfd., but his porkship did not like the change so ran away and went back home; he d. in Heath, Feb. 22, 1800. He m. Lucy, dau. Thos. Hastings of Hat; she d. Sept. 28, 1802, a. 78."2 |
