    Mrs. W. C. Burgess of 1302 Des Moines street, passed away at her home last night at 11:45 o'clock. Mrs. Burgess first came to Keokuk about the year 1860 and was widely known throughout the whole city. Her death has been noted with regret by her host of friends here, who have known and loved her during the many years of her residence here.
    Mrs. Burgess was taken ill on December 25, 1914, and death was caused by atrophic cirrhosis of the liver.
    The decedent, whose maiden name was Anna Haines, was born in New Richmond, Ohio, on February 10, 1852,
    and was the eldest daughter of the late Philip and Catherine Haines.
    She came to Keokuk with her parents when she was seven years old and with the exception of about two years spent in Fort Madison, had resided here continuously since. She was married to W. C. Burgess on January 1875, at Hamilton, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Burgess resided in Fort Madison just after their marriage for about two years and then returned to
    Keokuk, this city having been the decedent's home ever since.
    To the union were born three daughters, Anna Madeline Burgess, who died in Infancy, and Mrs. W. C. Virgin and Miss Ethel Burgess, of this city, who with the husband survive. There are also two brothers and a sister, W. R. Haines and Mrs. Julia K. Burch of Keokuk, and J. E. Haines of Independence, Mo.
    The decedent was a member of Trinity Methodist Episcopal church, but had been unable to attend the services for some time because of her poor health. Mrs. Burgess was a woman who was universally loved end esteemed and the family has the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters of Keokuk. The funeral Is to be held on Saturday from the house.
