The father was born on the day of the battle of New Orleans during the war of 1812; his birth having occurred in Maryland, from which state he removed to Indiana when a boy. He was thrice married, his second wife being the mother of our subject. The death of William Rusk occurred in September, 1882....He was the father of sixteen children by his three wives. Eleven of the children are still living."1
