For Andrew, he was "born in County Cork, Ireland, in 1790, where he was reared and learned the shoemaker's trade, which he followed until 1817, when he sailed for America, landing at Halifax. Thence he went to Washington, D. C, where he worked for a time, thence to St. Louis, and in 1819 located in Washington County, Mo., where he followed his trade, and in connection with his brother John, who accompanied him to America, he carried on farming, mining and merchandising."
