[S1628] FindAGrave.com, online findagrave.com, shared ground marker. Leeds / Lucy E 1877-1846 / Edgar 1878-1966; Nelson Cemetery, Nuckolls Co. NE. Narrative citing The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, October 17, 1946: Lucy E. Helmick Leeds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Helmick, was born in Pottawattamie county (sic), Iowa, October 1, 1877; departed this life from the home in Nelson, Nebr., October 14, 1946. While she was still a young girl her parents moved from Iowa to Nebraska, and settled in Clay county (sic), and here she grew to womanhood.
On June 12, 1894, she was united in marriage to Edgar Leeds. To this union two daughters were born -- Mrs. Ethel E. Nelson and Mrs. Hazel Webster, who now live in Long Beach, California.
In her going, Mrs. Leeds leaves her husband and daughters, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Gray of Denver, Colorado, and one brother, John Helmick of Rosemont, Nebr. There are also two half brothers, O.S. Patterson of Lincoln, and O.A. Patterson of Wallace, Nebr.
Mrs. Leeds and her husband have lived in Nelson for over fifty years and in all this time they have proven themselves fine neighbors who were helpful and true. Mrs. Leeds was a good wife and mother, and a true friend. If there was anyone in need she was one of the first to offer her help and sympathy. She enjoyed her folowers, her home, her children and her husband. She has been ill for some time, but she was a patient sufferer to the end. She with kind hands has nursed and cared for the sick and the aged, doing what she could to comfort and cheer people in their declining years. The Bible says they who give a cup of cold water in the name of a desciple (sic) shall not lose their reward.
Funeral services were held in the Klawitter Mortuary Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and were in charge of Rev. Clarence V. Powell. Music was furnished by Mrs. Arbor Ferebee, Mrs. Fred Kelly, Jas. F. Murphy and Lowell Powell. Mrs. H.H. Hite presided at the piano. Burial was in the Nelson cemetery
