Thornton, dated 14 Apr 1931, responding to he request for information about the pension file of Joseph Price (see exhibit for complete pension file): [Joseph Price] alleged that while residing in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, he enlisted in July, 1775 and served about six months in Captain Joseph Stout's company, Colonel William Maxwell's New Jersey regiment, and from February 1, 1776 in Captain Walter Stewart's company, Colonel Shee's Pennsylvania regiment until in August, after which he served as corporal in the New Jersey militia under Captains Philip Medler or Meadler, Peter Campbell and Colonel Joseph Beavers, until April 14, 1777, when he went to Abbeville District, South Carolina, and served from 1777 until 1782 on short tours under General Andrew Pickens. He stated that his service in all amounted to seventeen one-half months as private and six months as corporal. between 1775 and 1782.3 The claim was not allowed as he did not furnish satisfactory proof of service as required by the pension laws. | |
